Acupuncture
Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world.  Acupuncture is a form of therapy and health maintenance first developed in the far and near east over 5,000 years ago. Specific points on the skin are stimulated in order to affect an energy balance in the body.  The body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces: yin and yang.  Yin represents cold, slow, or passive aspects of the person, while yang represents hot, excited, or active aspects. Acupuncturists believe that health is achieved through balancing yin and yang, and disease is caused by an imbalance leading to a blockage in the flow of qi, or vital energy, along pathways known as meridians. Qi can be unblocked by using acupuncture at certain points on the body that connect with these meridians.  Stimulation of one or a combination of key acupoints on the body may restore harmony to the affected area. Dr. Beckner uses needle and non-needle forms of stimulation. The needles maybe be used in combination with moxa, electical stimulation, and/or heat lamps. Non-needle techniques include the use of taishein, laser, electic stimulation, and finger pressure.
